8 Reasons to Choose WorkSafe Forklift Training in Nanaimo

When it comes to operating mobile equipment, proper training isn’t just important—it’s required. In British Columbia, WorkSafeBC regulations make it clear: anyone operating a forklift must be trained to a recognized standard. If you’re an employer or worker in Nanaimo, choosing the right training provider is crucial for safety, compliance, and long-term productivity. Here’s why WorkSafe Forklift Training in Nanaimo through VIF Safety Training should be at the top of your list.

1. Certified and Experienced Instructor

At the heart of VIF Safety Training is Darrell Block, the Owner and Lead Instructor. With over 18 years of real-world mobile equipment experience, Darrell brings both practical insight and formal credentials. He has been an Ives Certified Trainer since 2018 and has taught at North Island College. This mix of hands-on knowledge and teaching ability ensures the training is thorough, relevant, and easy to apply in real job situations.

2. Training That Meets WorkSafeBC and CSA Standards

Forklift training in BC must follow WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, specifically Section 16: Mobile Equipment. VIF Safety Training doesn’t just meet that bar—it aligns with the updated CSA Standard B335-15, which became mandatory on September 1, 2021. When you choose VIF’s WorkSafe Forklift Training in Nanaimo, you know you’re getting instruction that fully complies with both provincial and national safety requirements.

3. On-Site Training Convenience

VIF Safety Training offers on-site forklift training in Nanaimo. This means you don’t have to send your staff to an offsite facility, which saves time, travel costs, and scheduling headaches. Instead, your team can train in their actual work environment using familiar equipment, which improves retention and real-world application of safety procedures.

4. Local Service with Consistent Standards

VIF Safety Training is not a franchise or national chain—it’s a BC-based company that serves the communities of Campbell River, Victoria, and Nanaimo. Even though the training is locally delivered, the curriculum and standards remain consistent across all service areas. If your company operates in multiple locations on the island, you can rely on a uniform approach to training, certification, and safety compliance.

5. Real-World Equipment Knowledge

Darrell’s background isn’t limited to teaching—he’s worked directly with the equipment. He’s a Red Seal Industrial Electrician and has held roles like Electrical Shop Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, and Lockout Coordinator. That experience allows him to deliver training that goes beyond checklists and into the practical challenges operators face every day.

6. Comprehensive Mobile Equipment Certification

WorkSafe Forklift Training in Nanaimo is part of a wider set of mobile equipment training services. VIF Safety Training offers certifications in:

  • Counterbalance forklift operation
  • Aerial lifts (scissor and boom lifts)
  • Telehandlers
  • Fall protection
  • Confined space awareness
  • Lockout/Tagout
  • Overhead crane basic rigging
  • Powered pallet jack

This makes it easier for employers to streamline all safety training under one roof, simplifying logistics and record-keeping.

7. Emphasis on Employer Responsibility

VIF Safety Training speaks directly to what employers need to know. Beyond just training, employers are responsible for ensuring ongoing supervision and compliance in the workplace. This includes making sure employees remain competent and meet safety standards. Refresher training every three years is also recommended to stay aligned with CSA guidelines. Choosing a training provider that understands employer duties helps ensure due diligence is maintained.

8. Veteran-Led, Safety-First Approach

Darrell’s eight years in the Royal Canadian Navy add another layer of discipline and responsibility to how training is delivered. Safety is not just a checkbox—it’s a mindset that’s instilled through every session. His military background reinforces a no-compromise attitude toward risk, precision, and leadership, all of which benefit your workforce.

Conclusion

WorkSafe Forklift Training in Nanaimo is not just a regulatory box to tick—it’s a smart investment in the safety and effectiveness of your team. With certified instruction, CSA-compliant curriculum, and convenient on-site delivery, VIF Safety Training stands out as the go-to provider for businesses in Nanaimo.

Hear From Those We’ve Trained

I was recently re-certified on Telehandler and class 1,4,&5 Forklift through VIF Safety Training. Owner/Instructor Darrell was very knowledgeable and kept the group engaged throughout the course. Both workers with no experience on the equipment, and experienced operators like myself benefited from Darrell’s approach to instructing. Everyone in the course left understanding the regulations, safety procedures and hands on confidence of equipment specific to our worksite. Darrell’s relaxed and professional instruction especially helped the workers new to the equipment. We will be having VIF Safety return for more courses in Fall Arrest and Lock Out Tag Out.

I have taken safety training in all forms of machine handling for many years. Literally a dozen times. VIF and owner instructor Darrell was the most informative relaxed and on point of any I've taken. From very experienced as myself to new operators of telehandlers and forklifts we all benefited from a well balanced training session. Highly recommended

Recently had Darrell in our shop at Campbell River Boatland for forklift training. It was a combination of newbies and recertifications, and he handled both groups with ease. Professional, knowledgeable, and flexible working with us after we had to reschedule. Definitely recommend!
